Philz Coffee – South Coast Plaza – ★★★★½

I stumbled upon this hidden gem while casually making my way home from the coffee haven across the street, Euro Caffe, and boy, am I thrilled about this serendipitous find.
Now, let’s dive into the location. Nestled on the corner of Bristol & Sunflower, directly across from South Coast Plaza, this coffee shop boasts a petite outdoor patio that commands attention. Positioned perfectly to catch the eyes of commuters at the four-way stoplights, your table becomes a spotlight feature every time the light turns red. With a bustling mall, shopping center, and thriving businesses in the vicinity, consider this patio prime real estate – the perfect stage for you to be noticed. 🚦☕ #HiddenGemDiscovery #CoffeeShopAdventures #PrimePatioSpot
Philz is on the bottom floor of a business tower. There is a hospital where they do surgeries, a Pilates studio, and other businesses directly connected to the shop. The variety and amount of people that come through this coffee are desirable. You never know if you’re going to meet a Doctor, a Business Owner, a Shopper, or a random customer like myself. 5-star opportunity. In the course of my visit, a diverse spectrum of men caught my eye – ranging from college-aged individuals to those more seasoned. It dawned on me that I might be fashionably late to the realization that this spot was a social hub. The male patrons exuded a friendly aura, quick to share smiles and make eye contact. While some were tucked away in corners, engrossed in work, the majority of laptop users emitted a distinctly social vibe. Contributing to the lively atmosphere was the upbeat and modern music, setting the perfect tone for a dynamic and engaging experience. 🎶👥 #SocialHubDiscovery #CoffeeShopVibes #LateToTheParty
The service isn’t that great. I think the baristas are involved in their socializing for the most part, however, a longer wait time for your coffee in this case is fine. There are lots of options. You can wait on the designated bench for your coffee, or at a booth, or surrounding tables. Pick a testosterone-rich section and strike a smile. 🙂

I had a Philtered Soul Coffee and it was amazing. It’s a little different than ordering at a Starbucks. You have a base coffee flavor, that she described as a “pour-over”, and then you have to choose your level of cream and sugar. I selected Medium and it was perfect. Honestly, it was the best-tasting coffee that I have had in a long time. Nothing better than a comfortable hunt zone with actual yummy coffee.

Speaking of comfort, let’s talk about your seating options, and there are many. There is a large patio right in front with lots of space between the table and couches so that a private conversation could be had. The seats have comfortable cushions and are very inviting. It’s a chill environment, and I could spend some time out there. Inside there are many table choices on both sides of the coffee shop and small tables with cushy chairs for lounging. This shop was definitely designed for you to spend some time relaxing, and socializing. It’s a whole vibe, and I dig it.
Philz Coffee gets a 4.5 rating. A half a point from perfection is because of the dodgy parking situation. There are several parking options but you can only enter from Sunflower. And you could be in for a small hike if you don’t get lucky with a space adjacent to the shop.
